Dr. Benjamin Kirtman

Dr. Benjamin Kirtman is a Professor of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, where he develops tools to more precisely predict changes in the Earth’s climate. He is known internationally for his cutting edge work on complex computer models that are bringing unprecedented detail and accuracy to climate change measurement. He leads the University of Miami’s Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies and the Center for Computational Science’s Climate and Environmental Hazards Program. Dr. Kirtman is a global leader on climate variability including serving as the lead scientist for the North American Multi-Model Ensemble (NMME) prediction system and as a Coordinating Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the leading international body for the assessment of climate change established by the United Nations and the World Meteorological Organization. Dr. Kirtman received a BS in Applied Mathematics from the University of California-San Diego and PhD from the University of Maryland-College Park.
